Tokyo calling.

At the National Portrait gallery I popped in to have a butchers at a portrait of a friend of mine who is currently residing in Tokyo. I had been feeling a pang of absence for a few days and so as I was in the area and still drunk so I marched in to the BP Portrait Award exhibition found the photo, stared at it for ten solid minutes and marched right back out feeling decidedly better.

A postcard of the Liza portrait.
(My photos just get better and better.)

Amsterdam revisited.

Being woken up before eight am I thought I would make the most of my day in a way that you can only do when you are still extremely drunk from the night before. So off the the National Gallery I went.
Kienholz: The Hoerengracht was what I was aiming for and although a little bit smaller than I had expected I still loved it.
After perusing a remade street of Amsterdam's red light district I sat on a bench provided and took it all in. I was taken aback by the extreme detail and accuracy of it and thinking of my friend Sara who is currently residing in Amsterdam I got a bit teary. Don't drink and appreciate art unless you like blubbing in public.

Im coming out so you'd better get the party started.

Will Young, Colin and Justin, Russell Tovey, Dr. Christian Jessen and allegedly Graham Norton were some of the homo's rounded up by Attitude magazine to honour the coming out of Gareth Thomas. Apparently a well respected Welsh rugby player.
Movida was the location and after securing a booth we demolished the champagne and pink vodka with gay abandon. Live music was supplied by someone in another room.
The atmosphere was light and fun was had by all until the booze ran out and we were expected to pay. Although Elauan from Attitude had a free drink pass the queue at the bar was so long we ditched and went to the old staple Moonlighting for cheap drinks, indie music and to have my phone lifted.

Class in a glass.

Claridges do an awesome cheese board.
And once you start on the bar nibbles you cant stop.
However their Dirty Martini was far too clean for my taste.

Pants and more pants

We knew the James Tudor underwear launch was going to be nothing to write home about but a night out with free booze seemed the perfect opportunity to have a little new year get together.
However we did not know how low rent it would be.
In Vondame Mayfair once I had struggled my way across the stickiest dance floor ever I was handed a vodka and cranberry.
"Is there alcohol in this?"
After being reassured there was I necked it and took another one.
With only 4 models sporting the product and a few pairs strewn from the ceiling the event did not showcase the product at all. Some might say the venue was apt for the product.
After a couple of hours drinking with no effect we ditched and went to have real cocktails in the nearby Claridges Bar.

Aren't you Precious.

The story of a 16 year old illiterate girl who is pregnant with her second child from a rapist father and living with a mentally and physically abusive mother should have you in tears even before the lights dim in the cinema. However at the Precious screening as much as I wanted to bawl my eyes out it was just not happening. Somehow the film just missed plucking at my heart strings. Sad but true. I wanted so much more and with an excellent marketing campainge in full swing this film with be leaving a lot of people just slightly cold.
